The debate: Should we teach these students that they must sit in a desks, or should we allow them to learn anywhere they are comfortable?
St. Timothy Catholic School, a public school in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, spoke with students and did a lot of research on how to best meet their students environmental learning needs. They ended up with this:
Comments from people posting on the online article ranged from some generally positive to some downright negative. People were concerned about whether these students would grow up feeling entitled to be able to what they want in a business atmosphere, the students' posture, and whether they were actually learning in such a "chaotic" environment.
I personally love the idea of a deskless classroom, well, a partially deskless classroom. It would be great to have a room that had a few desks, a couple tables, and some floor seating (cushions or beanbags). I would consider couches, but it would depend on the class and their behaviour.
