Place Value Mystery PicturesStudents each receive a worksheet with either base ten blocks or phrases such as "six tens and three ones". They must color in the corresponding number on the hundreds chart, and in the end, they will have a picture! The product costs $3.50 on TPT, through seller Cara Carroll, and I love it! 3-D SculpturesEach week the students can focus on a different 3-D solid, describing the edges, vertices, etc. For patterns, I recommend this site: Korthal Saltes Magnetic SupermindA great game ($25.00) where students use pattern blocks to create the picture. It can be used for upper elementary as well, since the images aren't always obvious for where to put the shapes. Christopher Hart Drawing BooksChristopher Hart has a series of books (available from Amazon for about ten bucks each) that are based on drawing using basic shapes. This is a little less "math" and little more "art" but might be a fun activity for the kids on a rare basis. Math GlyphsMath glyphs are a way of graphing that helps students discern information in a step by step manner. They are a lot of fun, and you get a cute little "product" at the end. Go to these websites for some great Math Glyph Info and Ideas: Dr. Nikki's Guided Math MathWire Teacher Tips Mystery Picture Math FactsSuper Teacher Worksheets has some fantastic basic facts coloring pictures that kids love... a membership is $20.00 a year, but I swear, it is one of the most worthwhile things ever! I don't use worksheets too often, but they have some great resources! Explore SymmetrySymmetry is always a lot of fun when you integrate art. Snowflakes can be an excellent example of radial symmetry, and there are certainly a lot of art projects that require symmetry! Click on the pics for some ideas! Tangrams!Tangrams are an ancient puzzle that involve seven shapes. You can combine them to make many different pictures, and there are books upon books that have the picture puzzles in them. Just search "tangrams" on amazon.com. Check it Out: MathART Projects BookScholastic has a book called MathART... I haven't read it, but I plan on ordering it soon as it looks like a fun resource to have. You may want to check it out!
