TGC Syndrome
So, after a long stressful year, I came up with MATH - WIN.
M - Math Facts
A - Art with Math
T - Technology
H - Homework
W - Word Problems
I - Instruction with Teacher
N - Notebooking
We have 210 minutes of math per week, so approximately 42 minutes per day. Not a lot of time for thorough math instruction, but I digress.
The first 15 or so minutes is whole-group instruction. We will go over the topic of the day, or play a relevant mathematics game. We review mathematics vocabulary, and do some notes or examples on our whiteboards or in our Math Notebooks.
The next 15 or so minutes is Homework and Instruction time (The H and I of MATH - WIN). During this time students complete customized homework assignments independently while I pull two groups for math instruction with me. This is where we go deeper into the math topic of the day, and it is focused on the level those students are at.
When students are done their homework, they can go to their Math Station of the Day. That station may be Math Facts, Art with Math, Technology, Word Problems, or Notebooking. I will give you some ideas on what these might look like later on :-)!
Here is a sample teacher schedule:
