Every Tuesday a new classroom tour will be featured. Send yours in if you feel you have the kind of classroom that will inspire others... or if you need some advice on how to make your classroom better!
Instead of starting off with a traditional tour, in honor of Summer being around the bend I think we should take a look at outdoor classrooms this week and next. This week I will focus on Outdoor Classrooms with enduring structures aka some inspiration if you have the space you can modify permanently.

Why create an outdoor classroom? Children score better academically when they experience outdoor activities with proper follow-up. Outdoor play-based learning encourages students to explore risk in a safe, supervised environment. Authentic learning can be embraced by linking so many elements of the curriculum to it: music (Aboriginal music, music using everyday elements), science (plants, life cycles), art, language arts (poetry in nature), and so much more! Students retain the most when they get to interact with their environment and each other... and outdoor classroom really encourages that when it is set-up the properly.
